LifeWorks NW's REAL program (Recovery, Empowerment, Achievement in Life) serve African American youth with substance use disorders.

The Outreach Specialist will be responsible for developing relationships with potential referents, meeting with youth and families to present the program, and representing the program and agency in community meetings. The ideal candidate must be organized, reliable, able to travel throughout Multnomah County and comfortable with public speaking. The Outreach Specialist must have experience working with African American youth and families and be familiar with substance use disorder treatment.munity partners.

Hours This is a part-time position working 20 hours a week. The hours are daytime hours.  

Pay/Benefits. $16.86 to $18.34 per hour. Pro-rated benefits.

Eseential Responsibilities: 

  • Attends community and school events to present Youth Addictions program information
  • Continually increases level of cultural sensitivity, awareness and competency. Actively participates in a minimum of four hours of training related to cultural effectiveness in working with diverse populations.
  • Receives referrals for the Youth Addictions program and engages potential clients in pre-enrollment services.
  • Insures youth addictions staff are able to keep full caseloads.
  • Supports school personnel to screen potential clients
  • Sends out correspondence and performs follow-up telephone calls to potential clients
  • Completes critical incident reports when indicated within 24 hours of a critical incident. 
  • Travels between sites or in the community. Transports clients in a LifeWorks NW and personal vehicle. 


  • Prior experience working in the addictions field.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively; understand mental health assessment, treatment and service terminology and individual, group, family and other counseling techniques; program policies and procedures for services and supports identified in an Individual Services and Supports Plan.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide culturally-competent treatment services to diverse client populations and maintain a cooperative working relationship with others in a culturally diverse environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide case management services and compliance with confidentially in accordance with federal, state and/or funding source requirements.
  • Knowledge of community resources and treatment agencies enabling appropriate referrals for specific client needs.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Outlook and Word. Ability to master proprietary software including electronic health record system required. 
  • Requires access to a personal vehicle, a valid driver's license, current auto insurance, and ability to meet LifeWorks NW driving requirements.
